A few months ago, as part of our A Light for Africa (ALFA) project, Aide et Action joined forces with PrimeEnergy Cleantech SA, Swiss company active in the field of renewable energy for to finance the electrification of a primary school in the village of Pendao, in the commune of Cassou, Burkina Faso. A look back at an initiative that benefits everyone.
In West Africa, 9 out of 10 schools are not electrified. To remedy this situation, Aide et Action is conducting the project A Light for Africa (ALFA) which aims to bring light into classrooms in rural areas in Benin, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
A win-win initiative
In February 2021, the public primary school in Pendao, which has 125 pupils, including 65 girls and 60 boys in 3 classes, benefited from solar lighting thanks to the ALFA project. A visit to the school at nightfall allows us to understand the new night-time atmosphere since the solar lighting was put into service. Moreover, the installation does not only benefit the pupils, but also the teachers and the wider village community.
An impact on the motivation of all
The solar lighting of schools has created motivation for both teachers and pupils. The fact that classmates are together to work is a source of motivation. The teachers who are housed in the schools accompany the pupils who have difficulties almost every day.
Aide et Action salutes PrimeEnergy Cleantech SA for its commitment to education and warmly thanks it for this valuable support, which has a great impact.
