Mobilisation and awareness-raising: Education action for committed young people

On 4 and 5 May, Action Education took part in the 7thème edition of the Youth Summit, organised by Step Into Action. This is an event created by young people for young people (aged 15-19), with the aim of encouraging the next generation to reflect on a range of societal issues and become agents of change themselves.

Today, our society is facing major challenges that we can only meet together: climate change, growing inequalities, the spread of digital technology, etc. Young people can also make their contribution by providing solutions thanks to their energy, dynamism and inventiveness. Young people can also make their contribution by providing solutions thanks to their energy, dynamism and inventiveness. And this awareness-raising begins at school, thanks in particular to the support of their teachers. For some years now, the Department of Public Education (DIP) in the canton of Geneva has been integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the school curriculum at primary, secondary 1 and 2 levels.

As part of this event, young people are encouraged to work on environmental, societal and economic challenges through an interactive journey. This year, the theme was sustainable development. The high point of the journey is when the young people, teachers, guest organisations and volunteers meet up. Together, they discover their potential and develop ideas to help shape the future in the face of today's environmental, social and economic challenges.

We'd like to extend our warmest thanks to the Step Into Action team for this opportunity to talk to some committed young people!
