SCOLFILLE project
The Scolarisation des Filles (SCOLFILLE) project is being implemented in the Ziro and Sissili provinces in the Centre-West region of Burkina Faso by Action Education in partnership with the Fondation l'Occitane. The aim is to provide quality education for girls who have dropped out of school early or who are out of school, through the Accelerated Schooling Bridge Strategy (SSAP).
The SSAP centres have sometimes taken in boys to supplement their numbers, but above all to meet the requirements of the strategy, which advocates parity in enrolment. This strategy consists of opening centres within mainstream state schools to take in girls who have not attended school and/or have dropped out early for one school year, with a condensed and accelerated teaching-learning programme for the first three years of mainstream schooling. At the end of the year, the learners are assessed and, depending on their level, they are reintegrated into the traditional school system.
During the 2021-2022 school year, SCOLFILLE enabled the opening of 8 SSAP centres, including 4 in the province of Ziro (in the schools of Lorou, Ballogo, Bogagnonon and Nekrou) and 4 in the province of Sissili (in the schools of Boura centre, Bozo, Météo and To B). The project contributed to the construction and equipping of the centres, provided school kits for the pupils and trained facilitators. The 8 SSAP centres welcomed 136 learners, including 153 girls. Following the assessment, 136, including 123 girls, were declared fit to return to mainstream school, including 36 in CP2, 34 in CE1 and 64 in CE2.
For the 2022-2023 school year, the project has opened 4 SSAP centres: 2 in Ziro (sector 4 school in Sapouy and Ouayou) and 2 in Sissili (Bozo and To B). In total, the centres welcomed 76 learners, including 42 girls, out of 103 initially enrolled. 67, including 35 girls, were transferred to CP2 (12), CE1 (14), CE2 (33) and CM1 (6).
Over the two school years, 12 SSAP centres were opened thanks to the SCOLFILLE project and welcomed 242 learners, including 195 girls. Of these, 203, including 158 girls, returned to or joined mainstream schools. A second chance for beneficiaries to continue their education.
