2024 was a year of resilience, mobilisation and solidarity on the ground.
In a global context marked by instability and humanitarian, climatic and social crises, voices have been raised to denounce injustice, communities have organised to respond to emergencies, and NGOs have innovated, adapted and sometimes even reinvented themselves to continue to support the most vulnerable populations. Everywhere, collective dynamics have emerged to deal with emergencies, to make up for the absence of governments, and to ensure that the voices of the forgotten are heard.
Because 2024 should have been the year of a collective awakening, of a strengthening of international solidarity. However, the opposite dynamic has taken hold: the major economic powers have turned in on themselves, gradually breaking their commitments to the most vulnerable countries. This wave of disinvestment is occurring at a time when needs are exploding, in a world where conflicts are multiplying, climate change is accelerating, and millions of women, children and families are falling into poverty.
Faced with this scenario, we have never stopped taking action. Working with our local partners, we have continued our commitment on the ground, alongside those who are facing the harshest consequences of these political setbacks: to maintain access to education, protect the most vulnerable and defend fundamental rights.
Through "2024 in Pictures", we want to pay tribute to these dynamics of resilience and commitment. We want to show the contrasts of this year: in the face of declining political commitment, these images are a reminder that our commitment is not waning.
