ACTE Afrique: IT equipment for youth platforms in Burkina Faso

Desktops, video projectors, photocopiers, colour printers, professional cameras, controllers, etc.: this is the range of IT equipment donated by Action Education to the beneficiaries of the Action for Citizenship for and by All Children in Africa (ACTE Afrique) project to run the youth platforms in arrondissements 8 and 10 of the Ouagadougou municipality and the 12 participating schools.

The project Action pour la Citoyenneté par et pour Tous les Enfants par l'Education en Afrique (ACTE Afrique) is an initiative of Action Education in partnership with Agence Française de Développement (AFD). It is being implemented in 4 countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Togo. In Burkina Faso, the beneficiaries are arrondissements 8 and 10 of the Ouagadougou municipality. The aim of the project is to contribute to the mobilisation and organisation of communities and the various players involved, with a view to federating their actions around the youth policy of the communes, in order to improve access to rights, in particular civil status, education and citizenship for children, young people and marginalised groups. To this end, Action Education is supporting the project's target actors so that they are at the heart of the actions and activities in their favour. Support for IT equipment, comprising 26 desktop computers, video projectors, professional cameras, sound equipment, controllers and an Internet connection, all worth 35 million CFA francs, is part of this approach. The equipment will be used to run youth platforms, frameworks for exchange, discussion and sharing between young people in Burkina Faso on the one hand, and with young people in other countries benefiting from the project on the other.

The town hall of arrondissement 8 hosted the IT equipment handover ceremony on Thursday 16 March 2023. The handover was attended by the presidents of the school governments of the 12 schools, the heads of youth associations, representatives of the decentralised education services and the municipal authorities of Ouagadougou and arrondissements 8 and 10.

For Narzoume Tchingue, representative of Action Education in Burkina Faso, "the project's approach is to ensure that children are at the centre of the whole action. That they are the actors in their own development in terms of education, citizenship, civic-mindedness, living together and environmental management".

As for the beneficiaries' representative, Kassoum OUEDRAOGO, he appreciates Action Education's support: "I'm delighted to receive this equipment, which will meet our needs. We are in the digital age and we need to be connected. This equipment has come at just the right time to help us meet and discuss current issues and find solutions. Our sincere thanks go to the ACTE Africa project.

As well as handing over the equipment, two workshops were organised: the first on how the youth councils set up in the boroughs work and how the youth platform is organised, and the second on validating the young people's action plans.
