A historic step in relations between Allada and Cap-Haïtien thanks to the ACTE Afrique project. On Thursday 26 September 2024, a delegation from the Allada town hall, comprising Mr Assane HOUEMAVO, acting head of the Allada district, and Dr Rodrigue MONTCHO, head of the Lisségazoun district, travelled to Haiti to sign an historic partnership agreement between the two towns.
This agreement represents much more than a simple rapprochement: it celebrates centuries of historical and cultural links, through the legendary figure of General Toussaint Louverture, whose roots run deep in Allada, Benin. As a descendant of this Beninese land, Toussaint Louverture symbolises resistance, freedom and Afro-descendant pride, a heritage shared by both peoples.
For Lorentus HOUEDOTE, Coordinator of the Allada Youth Council, "It's thanks to our micro-project "Design of a portfolio of tourist attractions in the commune of Allada "We are particularly proud, as the Association Éducative et Culturelle Asán Ogàn, to have contributed to this historic event. As the Association Éducative et Culturelle Asán Ogàn, we are particularly proud to have contributed to this historic event thanks to our partnership with Action Education through the ACTE Afrique project co-financed with AFD". The micro-project captured all the splendour of the commune of Allada in authentic images and stories.
"Thanks to the artistic residency of two photographers, we have been able to reveal the hidden treasures of our natural, historical and cultural heritage. Images and stories rich in history have been given to the town hall and local authorities. Today, we are honoured to know that our portfolio was an essential tool in the signing of this agreement, illustrating all the beauty and importance of our community", says HOUEDOTE.
Allada occupies a central place for Haiti, not only as the cradle of Toussaint Louverture's ancestors, but also as a symbol of a living Africa, full of ancestral knowledge and traditions that continue to inspire Afrodescendant generations around the world. This partnership embodies the reconnection of roots, a shared commitment to a future of solidarity and prosperity between the same people scattered across the world at the whim of history.
"We would like to express our sincere thanks to Action Éducation, AFD, the Allada town council and all those who have contributed to the success of this project", concludes HOUEDOTE.
