At the end of October, Aide et Action launched a project in Cambodia, supported by the European Union, which aims at raising awareness on environmental issues and supporting vulnerable fishing communities.

On 27 October 2021, the European Union delegation in Cambodia and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries officially launched four projects aimed at supporting green growth, job creation, social services and better protection of natural resources for fishing communities. Among them, a new project implemented by Aide et Action.

Developed over four years, from 2021 to 2024, our CO-SAVED project aims to support communities in the provinces of Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong to become more resilient through sustainable local economic development, improved service and green growth that helps reduce poverty and inequality. Currently, more than 380,000 Cambodians live in coastal communities, many of which are precarious.

For a sustainable and resilient growth

" CAPFISH is the EU's largest bilateral programme in Cambodia to help the Royal Government achieve sustainable, climate-resilient and inclusive growth in the fisheries sectorsaid the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Cambodia, Bryan Fornari. [...] Today's launch of the 4 projects is an important step in the post COVID-19 recovery in the region, providing new economic opportunities and improved livelihoods for over fifty thousand households."

Samphors Vorn, Country Director of Aide et Action Cambodia says that the main interest of our project is to " propose to these coastal communities to form sustainable partnerships to develop inclusive green economic growth, and thus strengthen the areas of education, water, hygiene and sanitation, and family livelihoods.

This new Cambodian project is fully in line with our new intervention logic as it targets vulnerable and marginalised communities and allows us to take into account the crucial issue of the environment and sustainable development.
