For the 35th This year's celebration of the International Day for the Rights of the Child (IDRC) was a milestone for Madagascar, which ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 19 March 1991. Since its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child has represented a global commitment to ensuring that children live decent, respectful and secure lives. JIDE reminds governments, organisations and citizens of the importance of their duty to the world's children.
Alongside the 66 member organisations of the Plateforme de la Société Civile pour l'Enfance (PFSCE), Action Éducation à Madagascar highlighted the right to education during the 20 November 2024 celebrations at the Barea Mahamasina stadium in Antananarivo. This year, the focus was on the importance of access to education, protection from violence and the right to health, so that every child can flourish in a safe and caring environment.
Under the global theme: " No to the stigmatisation of children, respect their rights so that they can flourish "Children were at the heart of the awareness-raising activities for JIDE 2024, as both actors and targets. Carnivals, games, fun activities, slam poetry competitions, dances and sketches were all used to raise awareness of respect for children's rights.
The day was also an opportunity for Action Éducation à Madagascar to showcase the toolkit for parents benefiting from the Investir dans l'Education et la Protection de la Petite Enfance (IEPPE) project. Parents were given a set of materials consisting of a large slate, a box of chalk, a guide to preparing children for school, an agricultural school calendar and a poster on the development of 5-year-old children. These tools enable parents to track their children's progress in pre-school and CP1, and serve as a reminder that education begins at home...
