Madagascar: An "Aide et Action Route" in Toliara

20 March 2023

Since 10 March 2023 Aide et Action (Action Education) has been immortalised in the city of Toliara in Madagascar. An avenue has been named "Route Aide et Action" by the authorities of the urban district of Toliara. The avenue leading to the Aide et Action office in the centre of Toliara has been named. Although the NGO is no longer active in the area, this has not diminished the reputation of Action Education and its office in the district. Until today, to tell a rickshaw driver if you want to go to this district, you just say that you are going to Aide et Action, and he will take you to the right address, in the Ampasikibo district of Toliara town!

This award reflects the local authorities' recognition of Action Education's work after 32 years of intervention in Madagascar. Toliara was one of Action Education's first areas of intervention. Aide et Action (Action Education) opened its first programme in Madagascar on 13 June 1991. This programme covered 5 districts: Toliara I, Toliara II, Betioky Sud, Fort-Dauphin and Mahabo. Action Education's activities included the following:

  • Mobilising players around education and solidarity,
  • the organisation of civil society in the field of education,
