Burkina Faso: freeing speech to combat gender inequality

On International Children's Rights Day (20 November), Action Education reminds us that being informed and participating are key to guaranteeing children's rights. In Burkina Faso, a number of the young girls we support are faced with numerous difficulties as soon as they start menstruating. The workshop we co-organised enabled them to look back at the inequalities and discrimination they suffer, and to show that speaking openly about taboos guarantees them access to their sexual and reproductive rights.

Children's rights : La Croix mentions Action Education on the situation in Burkina Faso

In its article "In Burkina Faso, the tragedy of displaced children who have dropped out of school", published to mark International Children's Rights Day on 20 November, the French daily La Croix describes the critical situation facing several NGOs working to protect children in Burkina Faso, including Action Education, Asmae-Association Soeur Emmanuelle, Planète Enfants & Développement, SOS Villages d'enfants, Save The Children and Plan International. These organisations can no longer count on French public development aid, which not only compromises their projects but also inflicts a double penalty on children who are already victims of insecurity.

Fundamental rights: young girls under threat

Rape, kidnapping, physical violence, forced marriages... these are just a few examples of the many deprivations and violations of children's rights to which young girls are subjected around the world. And their situation continues to worsen, particularly in crisis situations. On 11 October, International Girls' Rights Day, Action Education is sounding the alarm and reminding us of the urgent need to guarantee access to quality education for all. This year, the association is joining forces with Plan International and has co-signed a petition calling on governments to guarantee access to quality education for all.

education

Education, an essential weapon in the fight against climate change, is being neglected, according to the NGO Action Education

Natural disasters will claim around 150 million victims a year by 2030, an increase of 50% compared to 2018 (Source UN). The first victims of these crises are children, who are exposed to trauma and violations of their fundamental rights, including access to housing, safety, food and education. The international NGO Action Education is working to help the most vulnerable populations adapt to climate crises and to enable the youngest children to mitigate the effects of climate change, in particular through education for sustainable development.
