Donate to an association By becoming a registered charity, such as Action Education, you can not only support important causes, but also benefit from significant tax advantages. To do this, you need to comply with the calendar of the french tax authorities and find out the deadline for donations for income tax purposes.

We will provide you with all the information you need to make your donations in good time and optimise your tax deductions.

What is the deadline for making a donation?

The deadline for making a income tax donation is essential, as it determines the tax year for which you can benefit from the tax reduction. In France, the tax authorities operate on an annual basis, and only donations made before the deadline can be taken into account for the current year's tax return.

So for benefit from a tax deduction on your income for the current year, your donation must be made before 31 December of that same year. This means that if you wish your donation to Action Education to be tax deductible for the year 2024, you must make the donation before 31 December 2024. Donations made after this date will be taken into account for the following tax year.

To declare your donation with the tax authorities, here is the official timetable provided by the government for the dates inherent in the income tax return:

  • Dates for sending pre-filled returns by post : April 2024
  • Opening date of the online tax return service on impots.gouv.fr : April 2024
  • Deadlines for submitting returns online by zone :
    • Zone 1 (departments n°01 to 19 and non-residents) : Thursday 23 May 2024 at 11:59 pm
    • Zone 2 (departments 20 to 54 including 2A and 2B) : Thursday 30 May 2024 at 11:59 pm
    • Zone 3 (departments n°55 to 974/976) : Thursday 6 June 2024 at 11:59 pm

What happens if you miss the deadline?

If you make your donation after 31 December, it will be taken into account for the following tax year. For example, a donation made on 1ᵉʳ January 2025 will be tax deductible for 2025, not 2024.

It is therefore vital to respect this deadline if you want to maximise your tax benefits for the current year.
