To protect the vulnerable populations that we support on a daily basis, our teams are doing everything to provide an emergency response to the Coronavirus crisis. Each week, follow the evolution of our activities in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Here is the update on our various interventions as of May 16, 2020.
Wherever possible, Aide et Action mobilizes all its human and material resources to develop its projects in favor of the most vulnerable populations. Educating communities on prevention measures and providing them with basic support is our priority. In addition to the activities detailed in our special report, here are the latest developments:
SOUTH ASIA
In India, the situation of migrants workers is quite worrying. Many of them have been tested positive for COVID-19 and since they are moving back to their village of origin, they risk spreading the disease. The objective of our teams is therefore to support this population on the source site, before their departure. However, we also support families who do choose to leave. Their journey lasting several days, on foot, along the railways, represents a considerable risk. We act on three levels: through advocacy work with the authorities to ensure the safe transportation of migrants, before and after the border with the neighboring state; through psychological support and food aid; and finally by allowing families to rest in train stations safely.
SOUTH EAST ASIA
In Lao, schools are scheduled to reopen on May 18. At that time, Aide et Action will support its partner schools by supplying health equipment to teaching teams and children.
In Cambodia, students have still not returned to school for sanitary reasons. Distance learning is therefore widely developed and supported by Aide et Action.
AFRICA
The health situation deteriorates further with an increase in the number of cases. Yet, the states continue to lift gradually the lockdown (opening of schools, markets, end of the curfew, etc.).
In Benin, Aide et Action supports education through the media with the broadcasting of school programs via television or radio.
In Guinea, thanks to a partnership with the Orange foundation, our teams are distributing protection kits (masks, gels and soaps) within different schools.
In Togo, our teams continue their hygiene awareness campaign in rural areas. In total, around 150,000 people will be affected.
EUROPE
In France, an emergency fundraising campaign was set up to support our activities on the field.
To implement all these urgent actions and to best adapt our projects to this emergency situation, we need our most loyal support more than ever to help us!
