Cyclone Fani Relief Appeal

Fani, a severe cyclone (Category 5), made a landfall at Puri coast in Odisha on Friday, 3rd May, 2019. Categorized as 5 cyclone (Severe Cyclone), the winds at a speed of 185-240 Km/hr hit the coastal areas of Odisha and same parts of Andhra Pradesh. Over 1.2 million people in the state have been evacuated from the coastal belt and relocated to safer places. The migrant labourers who moved from various parts of Odisha to Bhubaneshwar are the most affected by cyclone Fani.  According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), cyclone Fani death toll touches 64 with highest number of 39 deaths in Puri followed by Khurda (9), Cuttack (6), Mayurbhanj (4) and 3 each in Kendrapara and Jajpur districts. Aide et Action has moved more than 2000 migrants, including 600+ children from 15 Brick Kiln sites to safer places like Government Schools and other safe public spaces. Aide et Action team has also ensured safety and food security to these migrant communities. This work has been done in collaboration with the Gram Panchayats, the local Village Governance Bodies.   Aide et Action will intervene in the Cyclone affected Puri district and slums in Greater Bhubaneswar Municipality Area for emergency relief, restoration and rehabilitation work through its Office at Bhubaneswar. We appeal to donors to support our interventions with the affected and at-risk communities in Puri district and slums in Greater Bhubaneswar Municipality Area (including Cuttack) of Odisha, India, due to the massive destruction caused by Cylone Fani. Aide et Action will conduct the following actions: 

  • Needs Assessment
  • Provision of Teaching & Learning kits
  • Solar lamps 
  • Psycho-social counseling to the people in distress in the operational areas
  • Cyclone relief co-ordination with district administration and humanitarian aid assistance actors.
  • Training on the management of child-friendly spaces for children affected by cyclones.
