Odisha is among the poorest state of India with rural poverty as high as 47.14%. As per the census 2011, the total population of the State is 41,947,358. Odisha is predominantly rural (85%) and is one of the least urbanized states in the country with only 13.43% of urban population as compared to 25.72% average of  the whole country. The state has a large population of ScheduledT ribes (STs – 17%) and Scheduled Castes (SCs – 23%), mostly living in the interior pockets. The State is home to as many as 62 tribal groups (of which 13 are primitive tribal groups). These sections of the society are among the poorest and face distinct marginalization as a result of mainstream development processes.  As per the census 2011, the literacy rate of Nabrangpur District is 48.20%, with male and female literacy at 59.45% and 37.22% respectively which is considerably low when compared to the district average of the 10 blocks of Nabrangpur

The Aamar Nani project was initiated by Aide et Action-South Asia in collaboration with Jocknick Foundation to work in these 10 Gram Panchayats of Jahrigoan block, Nabrangpur district. During the initiation of the project, the following matrix was developed.

Overall Objective

Enabling tribal girl children in the selected 10 Gram Panchayats(GP) of Nabrangpur district to realize their full potential by facilitating quality learning opportunities within and outside the education system.

Specific objective

• Improving access, assimilation, and retention of the tribal girl children of the programme communities in the primary education system.
• Strengthening the institutional capacities of the local CBOs, PTAs, SMCs, and PRIs for promoting and monitoring the educational achievements of children in the project area.
• Promoting life and livelihood skill education programme for adolescent girls and young women.
