Faced with the security risk, Aide et Action ensures educational continuity of displaced students in Burkina Faso
30 April 2021

In
Burkina Faso, many students have been displaced following the closure of their
schools due to terrorist threats. Thanks to Aide et Action and its partners,
they can continue their education, despite everything, and thus prepare for the
end-of-year exam under good conditions and hope to obtain their certificate.

Food, school supplies, basic equipment and
hygiene kits. This is the essential support provided by Aide et Action and its
partner, Solidarité Laïque, as part of a project funded by the French
Development Agency (AFD). This aims to support displaced students and their
host families in the municipality of Manni, in eastern Burkina Faso, following
the closure of their schools due to terrorist threats. This initiative greatly
relieves the local educational community and creates better conditions for the
continuation of the school year.

Close
to the needs of the community

Following the analysis of the needs of the
students and teachers, it was decided to provide the community with food (rice,
flour, cereals, etc.), school supplies, portable solar lamps, impregnated
mosquito nets, mats, hand washing devices, soap, hydroalcoholic gel, buckets,
cups, drums and medicine boxes. This distribution, made at the end of April,
allows students displaced in exam class to return to class under acceptable
conditions.

Indeed, terrorist threats on the one hand and
attacks on the other have forced several schools to close their doors, leading
to the displacement of students in Manni, the town’s capital where security
conditions are better. Among them, 108 beneficiaries must take their first exam
at the end of the year (57 students including 15 boys and 42 girls in CM2 for
the Kulfo school; 25 students including 12 boys and 13 girls for Soamboandi and
26 students including 9 boys and 17 daughters for Yarga). It is therefore
essential to guarantee educational continuity for them, as a priority.

A
feeling of joy and satisfaction

It
is a feeling of joy and satisfaction that animates me,
” says Salam
Ouedraogo, Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education
in the Province of Gnagna. “The
displaced students expressed a number of difficulties, but now all the problems
highlighted have been resolved thanks to Aide et Action. The support provided
to host families will go a long way in improving the living and learning
conditions of the students. I extend my sincere thanks to Aide et Action.

For their part, the students also thanked Aide
et Action for allowing them to prepare for the end-of-year exam in good
conditions. They are committed to work hard so that this support is not in
vain.
