Today, 129 million school-age girls (6-17 years) worldwide are not in school, according to UNESCO. This is especially true for girls who are poor, disabled or from vulnerable communities. To address these inequalities and fight against discrimination against girls, Aide et Action is multiplying approaches to reduce gender disparities in primary and secondary education.
In 2014, Aide et Action initiated the "Enlight" project in collaboration with Capgemini. Carried out in 9 Indian cities, with 2000 girls from various marginalized social groups, "Enlight" aims at providing continuous access to quality education to girls from vulnerable social groups, taking into account their specific needs and difficulties. Based on community participation and skills development, inclusion is a key component of the project.
In Hyderabad, for example, our project supports girls with disabilities, while in Calcutta we ensure that the daughters of sex workers have access to education despite the stigma they face.
