The #FemmesInspirantes of Action Education

To mark the month of March, under the banner of the fight for women's rightsIn this year's #FemmesInspirantes, we're honouring the #FemmesInspirantes in our network. Whether they are entrepreneurs, mothers, students or initiators of community projects, they are all contributing to change in their communities. Today, they share their extraordinary experiences with us.

 

#FemmesInspirantes in Madagascar : Venus

35% of Malagasy women are single mothers, and Vénus Onisoa is one of them. Supported by the Action Education Madagascar's Sandratra project Vénus is committed to her community. She created the "Miray" project to combat the major problems in her neighbourhood, such as gambling, drugs, banditry, prostitution and dropping out of school.
Thanks to his project, a sanitation organisation will be set up and will be a source of income for the local population who will take part in the improvements.

1TP7InspiringWomen in India : Bhavana

Through the Mothers' Committee, set up by Action Education, Bhavana and the other women on the committee have been encouraged to learn and teach their children. In their village, where women were not allowed to venture out, they now play an important role in their children's development and education.

#FemmesInspirantes in Vietnam : May

May, originally from the mountainous region of Sapa, Lao Cai in Vietnam, is the co-founder of Red Dao Mountain Botanicals. In 2021, May founded her company to produce quality organic products using the local herbs of the Red Dao people. The women of the Red Dao people have an in-depth knowledge of the precious mountain herbs. Driven by a desire to preserve traditional knowledge of herbs and medicinal recipes, May is creating employment opportunities for women and making a real positive impact on her community.

Lakshmi is a schoolgirl and a member of a group of actresses of change that has been set up in her village. In this group, Lakshmi and the other members deal with issues relating to education, women's rights and human rights in general. Thanks to their mobilisation, early marriages have been prevented.

1TP7InspiringWomen in India : Diariatou

Diariatou Diallo is an employee of Action Education and, above all, an activist for the women's rights. Born into a polygamous family where early marriage is common, Diariatou had to fight for her rights and choices from a very early age. Alongside the projects she runs at Action Education to promote girls' education and women's empowerment, she is involved in Guinean civil society organisations to advance the cause of women's rights. women's rights in Guinea and, more generally, in Africa.

#FemmesInspirantes in Burkina Faso : Assita

Assita Bationo, a former Primary Education Inspector, helps to implement Action Education's projects in Burkina Faso. Her father considered that Assita did not need to continue her studies, so she had to fight and work to stay in school and finance her school fees. Today, she is committed to girls' education and women's empowerment.

Rukmini Rao, activist for the women's rights She was voted Woman of the Year by India's The Week magazine in 2014. For Action Education, whose board she joined in 2011, she talks about her flagship programme, the Gramya resource centre, supported by our association.
